Dialysis Access and Catheter Placement

Dialysis Access and Catheter Placement

At Sri Balaji Kidney Care Centre, we provide expert services for dialysis access and catheter placement, ensuring safe and effective renal replacement therapy for patients with advanced kidney disease. Proper vascular access is a critical component of successful dialysis treatment, and our team is skilled in selecting and placing the most suitable access based on the patient’s condition and long-term needs.

Dialysis access may be required for both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. For hemodialysis, we offer the placement of temporary and tunneled (permanent) dialysis catheters under sterile conditions using ultrasound and fluoroscopy guidance to ensure accuracy and minimize complications. These catheters are typically placed in central veins such as the internal jugular or femoral vein, providing immediate access for urgent dialysis in patients with acute kidney injury or end-stage renal disease.

Our interventional nephrology services also include pre-procedure evaluations to assess vascular anatomy, infection risk, and overall patient suitability.

We prioritize patient safety by using aseptic techniques and providing post-procedure care instructions to reduce the chances of infection, clotting, or catheter malfunction.

In addition to catheter placement, we coordinate the planning and referral for long-term vascular access options like arteriovenous (AV) fistulas and AV grafts, which are preferred for chronic dialysis patients. Early referral and planning help avoid delays in initiating dialysis and improve patient outcomes.

For patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis, we facilitate the placement of peritoneal dialysis catheters in collaboration with surgical teams, and provide ongoing monitoring and support for catheter function and maintenance.

Our approach is comprehensive — from pre-placement counseling and selection of access type to post-procedure monitoring and complication management. We educate patients and caregivers on catheter care, hygiene practices, and signs of potential issues to promote long-term access viability.

With expertise in interventional nephrology and access management, Sri Balaji Kidney Care Centre is committed to ensuring that every patient receives timely, safe, and reliable dialysis access. Our goal is to support uninterrupted dialysis therapy, reduce hospitalizations, and enhance overall treatment outcomes for individuals with kidney failure.
